Our new high school opened in September 2020, just across the road from our existing primary school, on the outskirts of Luang Prabang. "High school" in Laos is equivalent to grades 6 to 12, roughly ages 11 to 18. In addition, as more parents enrolled their children at our school every year, we couldn't expand it fast enough to keep up, so the new building also hold classrooms for grades 4 and 5, as well as storage space for our publishing work -- we converted our old warehouse, close to the city, into a school. Yes, it all fits -- the new building has 17 rooms on three-and-a-half floors.
Field trips are an important part of what we do. Local businesses such as Ock Pop Tok, Living Land Farm, the Laos Buffalo Dairy and others, have welcomed groups of enthusiastic students. We've hiked to remote forest temples, visited the beautiful flower garden at Green Jungle Park, and hiked a 12-km circuit up a dusty road, down a mountain trail, winding our way back to the school.
